USA Pistachios

The United States is second on the list with the production of 231,000 metric tonnes.

USA Pistachios
Varieties cultivated in the USA include Golden Hills, Lost Hills, Joley, Red Aleppo, Bronte, Lassen, Trabonella and Aleppo.

During the 1880s, imported pistachios were popular in the USA, especially with Middle Eastern immigrants. After many years of experimenting, the concept of the American pistachio industry was becoming a reality. Word of the new crop spread and plantings emerged throughout California in the 1960s and later in Arizona and New Mexico. American pistachios are very similar to Iranian pistachios but with a little difference in quality and size and absolutely in price.

The development of pistachios starts in early summer and begins to ripen in September or late August across the USA. Coloration helps indicate when the pistachio’s harvest season is approaching; hulls lose their green hue and assume a tint that is pinkish and yellow.
